What is a Sales Development Representative (SDR)?

An SDR (Sales Development Representative) focuses on the initial stages of the sales process. As an SDR, you'll be making the first contact to potential clients through phone calls, emails, and social media, then setting up meetings for the more senior sales team.

This entry-level role is the foundation of a successful sales career and provides skills that can lead to promotions into more senior roles such as: Account Executives, Customer Success Managers, or Sales Managers.

SDR Bootcamp details:

One-week, in-person bootcamp in Cape Town

  1. We’re inviting grads from South Africa’s top three universities - UCT, Stellenbosch and Wits - to take part in our week-long bootcamp.

  2. First four days: focused on intensive skills training and development.

  3. Final day afternoon: our clients will pitch their businesses to YOU! You'll get to hear what makes each company special and decide which ones interest you most.

  4. We'll help you schedule interviews the following week with the companies you're most excited about. You're in the driver's seat!

  5. If you land a job, you'll work remotely for your international employer from our modern shared office space in Cape Town. You'll be alongside other SDRs from your training cohort—getting the benefits of an in-person team while working for exciting companies abroad!

  6. Our next bootcamp dates are from the 2nd-6th of June 2025.

  • Learn how to find the perfect potential customers for a business! We'll teach you how to research companies online, spot who might need the product, and find the right person to contact. You'll become a detective of sorts, discovering valuable information that helps you connect with prospects in a meaningful way.

  • Master the art of making that first contact! You'll learn how to write emails that actually get opened and responded to, and how to make phone calls that turn into conversations rather than quick hang-ups. We'll practice handling objections like "I'm not interested" or "We don't have budget" so you feel confident in any situation.

  • Get comfortable with the digital tools that make sales teams successful. Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems are like the brain of a sales operation – you'll learn how to track who you've contacted, what they've said, and when to follow up. These organisational skills will make you super efficient and help you hit your targets!

  • Understand the products and services you might be selling! We'll cover the basics of software-as-a-service (SaaS) businesses and how to explain technical products in simple terms. This knowledge will help you sound confident and knowledgeable when speaking with potential customers.

  • On the final day, you'll get to meet companies who are looking to hire! They'll tell you all about their business and what makes them special. Then YOU get to choose which ones you're most interested in, and we'll set up interviews for the following week.
